We all need to know our work is important. We need to know that what we spend 8 plus hours a day on has a meaning or a purpose. Yes a paycheck is a purpose but for most individuals it is more than that. We leave our homes and our families and many other amazing things to spend an enormous amount of time at WORK, what we do must matter, must contribute, must deserve some recognition to help support our PURPOSE for being there and the work we do.
This is not just about giving away gift cards and telling someone what a great job they did. This is about showing your team members how WHAT they do is connected to everything else in the organization and HOW it impacts the potential success or even failure of the whole. Support your team by
1.Talking about how their work flows into different parts of the organization
2. Show them what would happen if their Job didn’t exist
3. Ask other departments to share their experiences with your team. The good and the bad
4. Take them on a “field trip” to meet other departments and to physically see what happens before their work and afternoon their work
